'Of all the Things' is our animated short film currently in production about Hoarding Disorder that is being supported by the BFI NETWORK using National Lottery funding.
Ava remembers her childhood home as a place full of amazing things and adventures. The day she returns home from university, however, everything changes: what used to be a treasure chest has become an oppressive box, and her mother’s things and fear of letting go overwhelm their home and their relationship. By dipping into memories and sharing a moment in time, can mother and daughter reach an understanding?

DIRECTORS NOTE
Hoarding is often shrouded in shame; people don’t talk openly about it. Those with hoarding behaviours are often left feeling ashamed of their living situations and suffer without support.
As a child of someone with hoarding disorder it took many years for me to get my head around this misunderstood condition. After working through and processing my own personal experience with hoarding I wanted to create a film to share that and show a human side to this condition that is often overlooked as a mental health issue.
I want to give audiences the opportunity to be more empathic to those who are suffering as well as challenging the stereotypes of the messy lazy hoarder by giving a glimpse into the real human emotions and experience that come with living with the disorder.
This complex condition can be linked with other mental health issues and neurodiverse conditions. In telling this story we intend to show audiences how hoarding can affect a parent and child relationship, how generational trauma can affect individuals and our abilities to cope, and how often in cases of mental health conditions the best thing to do is accept rather than push back against it.
